What this Mexico residency calculator checks

The calculator compares your income or savings against the 2026 Mexican residency requirements for your chosen consulate. It accounts for Temporary versus Permanent Residency, dependents, income type, savings, and the fact that consulates publish different local-currency thresholds.

Income, savings, and consulate-specific thresholds

Mexican residency is usually decided through economic solvency: monthly income or a stable savings / investment balance. The federal formula is based on UMA, but each consulate converts those peso amounts differently. That is why the calculator asks where you plan to apply.

Temporary or Permanent Residency

If you are not sure which residency type fits, choose “Not sure” and the calculator will compare both. Temporary Residency has the lower financial bar and can convert to Permanent after four years. Permanent Residency has a higher bar, does not renew, and is often the right target for retirees who clearly qualify.
